A new one pangolino from the white belly was born in one zoo of the area of Chicago. Pangolin babies are called “pangopups” and the newborn was born July 25th at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago in Brookfield, Illinois.
According to the zoo, populations of all eight species of pangolins in the world are at declinewith species ranging from vulnerable a in critical danger. Pangolins are among the most trafficked mammals in the world. It is estimated that 200,000 specimens are captured illegally every year for the bushmeat trade. Their scales are also used in Asian medicine and jewelry. With this birth, there are now 13 pangolins at the zoo, one of the few parks in the United States that has managed to breed and raise this type of animal.
The pangolin has no teeth. It swallows its prey, mostly ants and termites, whole.
