USA: Arizona executed man who kidnapped and killed girl

The state of Arizona (EE.UU.) executed with a lethal injection to Frank Atwood66, convicted of the 1984 murder of an 8-year-old girl whose remains were found in the desert.

The Supreme Court Justice of the United States he gave his consent for execution rejecting the final appeal of Atwood’s attorneys, who was pronounced dead by mid-morning, said Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich.

Atwood is the second inmate executed in Arizona in less than a month.

Last May 11, Arizona submitted to capital punishment a Clarence Dixon and thus put an end to the suspension of executions attributed to the difficulty in obtaining the compounds of the lethal formula.

The use of capital punishment in the southwestern state had been suspended following criticism of a 2014 execution in which, according to witnesses, the condemned man suffered convulsions for more than 10 minutes before dying.

The Frank Atwood Murder

The Prosecutor’s Office indicated that Atwood kidnapped the girl Lynne Hoskinson, whose remains were found in a desert area northwest of Tucson regarding seven months later. Forensic experts were unable to determine the cause of death.

The girl had gone missing following she left her Pyma County home to drop a birthday card in a nearby mailbox.

“Today marks the final day of justice for our daughter Vicki,” said Debbie Carlson, the girl’s mother. “Vicki was a vibrant girl, with an infectious laugh and a smile that melted hearts.”

Frank Strada, director of the Department of Corrections of Arizona, said that in his closing statement Atwood thanked a priest “for being here today and for leading me to faith.” (EFE)
