As of this week, construction work will begin to close the gaps that the fence or wall has on the border between Mexico and the United States, next to the Morelos dam, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office reported.
At the beginning of last year, the CBP had informed of the project regarding the project to strengthen security in the area, in order to reduce the crossings and the risks that Border Patrol personnel and that the migrants themselves face when trying to cross through it. .
The CBP reported that the project will reinforce the existing infrastructure placed by the state of Arizona, and they expect it to be completed by the summer of this year.
“Due to the proximity to the Morelos Dam and the currents of the Colorado River, this area presents safety and life risks to migrants attempting to cross into the United States illegally, where there is a risk of drowning and falls,” CBP reported.
By completely closing these gaps in the barrier infrastructure, CBP hopes to discourage people from crossing through this area.
