The United States, without a doubt, has established itself in recent years as one of the most desired destinations for Colombians, thanks to the fact that it is a country with numerous tourist attractions. In addition, it constantly provides work and academic opportunities.
Since 2022, the United States Embassy in Mexico has shared on its official website some of the topics that consular agents consult most in the middle of the process to verify if the person is suitable to receive the visa, regardless of the country of origin.
“Every case is different, and individual circumstances may result in different consequences. In addition, this page is dynamic and will be updated to reflect the various changes in applicable laws and policies,” the consulate stated.
What are the questions in the visa interview?
- “What is the purpose of your trip to the United States?”: the interviewee has to describe the plans for their stay, whether for tourism, work or study.
- “How long do you plan to stay in the country?”: the person must tell in detail what dates they plan to travel to the North American nation.
- “Do you have family in the United States?”: Connections are generally used to review the reasons why the applicant wants to move to that country.
- “Where will you stay?”: it is important that the interviewee is clear regarding where they are going to stay and has the papers to corroborate it.
- “Who will pay the expenses of your trip?”: the objective of this question is to know if the person has sufficient financial income to pay for the trip.
- “What is your current employment situation? Do you intend to look for work in the United States?”: This answer will depend on the type of visa being requested. Ideally, the applicant should prove that he has a stable job, if he is applying for a tourist visa.
- “Can you provide supporting documents for your application?”: it is important that the person has all the documents up to date and that they are in accordance with what is being declared.
