THE UNITED STATES (US) expressed deep concern over the passing of an Israeli draft law that prohibits the Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA from operating in Israel.

State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized that UNRWA has a critical role in providing assistance to civilians in Gaza.

“Passage of this legislation could have implications under US law,” Miller said at a news conference. on Monday (28/10)

According to Miller, the US continues to urge the Israeli government to stop implementing the law.

“We urge that they not pass it at all, and we will consider next steps based on developments in the coming days,” he continued.

Miller added that UNRWA plays an important role in providing services to Palestinians in the West Bank and other areas where they are on the front lines of providing humanitarian assistance to communities.

“No one can replace them now in the midst of a crisis,” he stressed.

Miller also highlighted the problem of food, water and medicine not reaching the residents of the Jabalia refugee camp because they were facing a blockade by Israel.

“We want to see changes in this regard,” he concluded. (Anadolu/Ant/P-3)
