The United States State Department issued a travel warning Saturday urging Americans in Lebanon to leave while commercial flight options are available.
“Due to the unpredictable nature of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel and the recent explosions throughout Lebanon, including Beirut, the U.S. Embassy urges U.S. citizens to depart Lebanon while commercial options are still available,” the advisory said, using an alternative spelling for the Lebanese group.
“Currently, commercial flights are available, but at reduced capacity. If the security situation worsens, commercial departure options may not be available,” he added.
The US strongly urges American citizens in southern Lebanon, near the border with Syria, and in refugee settlements to leave the area immediately.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have escalated recently amid escalating cross-border fighting since the start of Israel’s deadly war on the Gaza Strip, which has killed nearly 41,400 people, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 last year.
