Columbia University in New York City has decided to extend remote classes for the rest of the term due to ongoing protests related to the Gaza war. The tense demonstrations have spread to colleges across the United States, leading to arrests and concerns about antisemitic harassment on campus.
In New York alone, 133 people were arrested during protests at New York University (NYU). Similar rallies and arrests have occurred at Yale and Harvard, while one university on the West Coast had to close its campus. The unrest has even reached the Midwest, with Gaza war demonstrations taking place at colleges in that region as well.
