[신화망 뉴욕 5월6일] The US unemployment rate fell in April.

According to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Labor on the 5th (local time), the U.S. unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 3.4% in April from the previous month. The number of new jobs in the non-agricultural sector was tallied at 253,000, far exceeding market expectations.

The U.S. unemployment rate in April was the lowest since May 1969. The labor force participation rate for the month remained at 62.6%.

By industry, the number of people employed in professional and office services increased by 43,000 compared to the previous month. Employment in the health sector increased by 40,000, leisure and hotel employment increased by 31,000, and financial sector employment increased by 23,000.

The average hourly wage for April jobs was $33.36, up 0.5% from the previous month and 4.4% from the previous year.

It is also noteworthy that the number of newly employed persons in February and March was revised down. The number of newly employed in February was revised down from 326,000 to 248,000, and the number of newly employed in March was revised down from 236,000 to 165,000.

Analysts pointed out that the downward revision of the number of new hires over the past two months not only proves that the US economy is frozen, but also the unemployment rate (3.4%) and the average hourly wage ($33.36) show instability in the US labor market. Recently released employment statistics have eased concerns about a possible US recession, but the US Federal Reserve may need more time to contain inflation.
