US to send $360 million in humanitarian assistance to Ukraine

United States will send more than $360 million in additional humanitarian assistance to Ukraine to be used for food, drinking water, economic aid and shelter, among other things, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced this Saturday.

“Our commitment to the Ukrainian people is firm,” Blinken wrote in a message on his Twitter account, adding that the money “will help the people in Ukraine and the refugees who have been forced to leave their country due to the brutal Russian war.

Shortly following, the State Department detailed in a statement that the funds will be sent through two channels: $288 million through the Department itself and more than $80 million through the US Agency for Development International (USAID, in English).

“Since the beginning of the war (…) The United States has provided more than $1.28 billion in humanitarian assistance to deal with this crisis, and we are the largest single donor of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine”, reads the letter signed by Blinken.

The US government announced on Friday a package of additional military aid for Ukraine of 400 million dollars, with “higher precision capability” weapons, including four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and ammunition for these long-range projectiles.

This is not the first time that the Biden administration has cooperated with money for Ukraine to defend itself from war. In fact, the United States has been key to other NATO allies sending their economic and military aid.
