POLL shows more than half of Americans believe that military aid to Israel should be limited but Washington continues to provide significant military aid to Tel Aviv.
This is known from Israel’s statement announcing on Thursday (26/9) that they would receive a military aid package from the United States totaling US$8.7 billion or around Rp. 131.6 trillion. The aid package coincides with the fourth consecutive day of a massive Israeli offensive into Lebanon, said to be the biggest offensive since the 2006 Lebanon war.
“The Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Major General Eyal Zamir, has completed negotiations in Washington for a large US aid package worth US$8.7 billion to support Israel’s ongoing military efforts,” the Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The package includes US$3.5 billion or around Rp. 52.96 trillion) for procurement of urgent war needs, which has been sent to the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD), and US$ 5.2 billion or around Rp. 78.69 trillion allocated for defense systems air, including Iron Dome, as well as advanced laser systems.
The statement noted that as per the agreement, the funds and equipment mentioned will be delivered soon. Meanwhile, Israel has been pounding Lebanon since Monday (23/9) morning, with attacks that have killed at least 677 victims and injured more than 2,500 others, according to data released by the Ministry of Health.
The Lebanese resistance group, Hezbollah, and Israel have been involved in a cross-border war since the start of Israel’s attack on Gaza, which has killed more than 41,500 victims, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, on 7 last October. The international community has warned about an attack on Lebanon, as this could expand the Gaza conflict regionally. (I-2)
