“The United States reduced unemployment to historic lows last year and has seen only minor fluctuations since then. The labor market is still in good shapeas new unemployment claims decreased by 14% compared to the same week last year, while they remained unchanged week after week on April 22,” says the report from the website specialized in economics and finance.
However, WalletHub points out, currently There are 6.4 million unemployed Americans in totaland it’s important to look at some key stats from the past week to get the full picture:
All states had unemployment claims last week that were lower than the week beforeexcept Pennsylvania, New York, North Dakota, Minnesota, Ohio, West Virginia, Nebraska, Vermont, Michigan, Nevada, Kansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Alaska, Iowa, New Hampshire, and the District of Columbia.
Thirty states, including Kentucky, Georgia and Indiana, had lower jobless claims last week than the same week last year.
To identify where unemployment claims are declining the most, WalletHub compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on changes in jobless claims during several key reference weeks. It also considered the number of claims per 100,000 people in the workforce.
