US State Department’s Aid to Egypt: Updates, News, and Congressional Collaboration

(CNN) – The US State Department stated that it is working with Congress on funds allocated for aid provided to Egypt, in response to the new Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Ben Cardin, withholding $235 million in military aid to Cairo.

The ministry’s deputy spokesman, Vedant Patel, said in a press conference on Tuesday: “We will continue to work closely not only with the Egyptian government but also with Congress on how to use these funds, in line with our commitment to the strategic partnership between the United States and Egypt that advances our shared vision for a safe region.” and prosperous, and allows for tangible and sustainable progress on human rights issues.”

Patel added that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken “is committed to his decision that it is in the US national security interest to provide aid to Egypt and waive some conditions related to fiscal year 2022.”
