Washington: US Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan. Visit in August. It is the first time in 25 years that an American speaker has visited Taiwan. In the coming weeks, President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold virtual discussions regarding this.
Meanwhile, China expressed displeasure with Pelosi’s visit. China has said that it will respond strongly if he visits. China has also warned the US to stop military ties with Taiwan.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi responded to Pelosi’s visit saying that the US is making a harmful and provocative move. China also opposes Pelosi’s visit because Aug. 1 marks the first anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army. The 20th Congress of the Communist Party is going to be held by the end of this year.
