A bipartisan petition from US senators requested Congress to ignore the result of the presidential elections in Venezuela in case María Corina Machado cannot present herself as a candidate.

The statement was issued by Republican senators Marco Rubio and Bill Cassidy, as well as Democrats Dick Durbin and Ben Cardin.

“Venezuela’s institutions are currently incapable, by design, of having free, fair and democratic elections while the narco-dictator’s henchmen who were carefully selected by Maduro direct all aspects of the process, including the CNE.”the senators indicated in this regard.

The event occurs just one day after the president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, defined the schedule that contemplates all the constitutional legal and technical requirements to hold the presidential elections July 28and which states that candidate applications will be received from March 21 to 25.

The CNE explained that The electoral campaign will last 21 days and will take place between July 4 and 25. The calendar also states that there will be a special period for voter registration, both national and international, which will run from March 18 to April 16.

The chosen date was the one that received the greatest support from political organizations during the consultation process that promoted the National Assembly with pro-government majority. In addition, the day coincides with the date of birth of the late former president Hugo Chávez.
