US Senator Referring to ‘Worst Decision’ of NATO Summit in Washington

“Proposing that Ukraine join NATO is the worst possible option,” the senator wrote in an article for the American Conservative magazine.

Paul stressed that “new countries should be invited to NATO only if this will improve the security of the alliance’s member states, but Ukraine’s accession will only increase the risk of a direct clash between the alliance and Russia.”

The senator pointed out that the alliance, during its summit in Washington, missed an opportunity to work towards a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian conflict instead of encouraging suffering, death and destruction.

“The Biden administration should have found the courage to lead the coalition to such a conclusion,” he said.

Earlier, the text of the joint declaration of the participants in the NATO summit in Washington was published, which included an item on “Ukraine’s future in the Alliance,” in which it was emphasized that Ukraine enjoys the most integrated political status with the Alliance.

The declaration also states that NATO countries intend to continue supporting the Kiev regime “on its irreversible path towards full Euro-Atlantic integration.”

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin presented new peace proposals to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which stipulate recognition of the Crimean Peninsula, the Luhansk and Donetsk republics, and the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions as part of the Russian Federation, consolidating Ukraine’s non-aligned, nuclear-weapon-free and denazified status, and lifting sanctions imposed on Russia.
