American media announced that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was hospitalized following suffering an emergency illness.

Last January, Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder announced that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had entered Walter Reed Military Hospital near Washington. Due to health complications.

The American Associated Press reported on Saturday that this is the first acknowledgment from the ministry that Austin was admitted – five days ago – to the military hospital, noting that it is not clear when he will be released from the hospital.

Ryder confirmed that Minister Lloyd Austin is recovering well, and is expected to fully resume his work duties today, pointing out that Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks was ready at all times to carry out the minister’s duties and exercise his powers if necessary.

Austin, 70, spent 41 years in the US Army, retiring as a four-star Army general in 2016.
