US report indicates the “extent of the expected Iranian response” to Haniyeh’s assassination

Western sources said, according to the newspaper, that the Iranian response to the assassination of the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran will come in the coming days, but according to them, “it will not be greater than it was in April,” when Iran launched a missile and drone attack on Israel in response to a raid that killed a number of Revolutionary Guard leaders on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

International officials estimate that “the enormous pressure and military preparations of Western countries in the Middle East will help mitigate the nature of the Iranian response. The sources estimated that this also applies to the response to the assassination of the leader Fouad Shukr in the Dahiyeh area of Beirut.”

The American newspaper reported that the United States warned Iran that it might be subjected to a devastating blow if it responded significantly to the assassination of Haniyeh, and similar messages were conveyed to Tehran by Arab diplomats.

US officials stressed that the messages that were conveyed directly do not constitute a threat of a US attack on targets in Iran, but rather a warning of the expected Israeli response in the event of a serious attack. The newspaper also stressed that the United States is working to increase its military forces in the Middle East, when the US Central Command announced last night the dispatch of F-22 fighter jets to the region.

In turn, the British newspaper, The Guardian, reported that in light of the intense international pressure exerted on Iran, which demands that it exercise restraint in its response and avoid dramatic escalation, it is likely that Iran will try to “harm the person or party responsible for the assassination of Haniyeh, i.e. Mossad or parties associated with it.”
