The United States government on Monday renewed for another year an authorization for certain liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) export transactions to Venezuela.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Department of the Treasury extended on Monday the 40C license, which allows the shipment of LPG in transactions involving the government of Venezuela, the state energy company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) or any entity in which PDVSA has a stake of 50% or more.
This annual license, which was first granted in July 2021 and subsequently renewed in 2022 and 2023, will be extended until July 8, 2025.
These LPG transactions were prohibited during the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) by an executive order signed in November 2018 and extended in 2019.
However, the current US president, Democrat Joe Biden, relaxed them following taking office.
As in previous occasions, the license does not authorize any payment in kind for oil or oil products or any transaction involving blocked persons other than PDVSA or its subsidiaries.
