US rejects new arrests of opponents

Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, denounced the recent arrests of members of political parties in Venezuela.

Nichols insisted on demanding the release of all political prisoners in Venezuela and stressed that the arrests of members of the Venezuelan opposition go once morest an inclusive electoral process.

«We condemn the arrests of more campaign staff from Venezuelan democratic opposition parties over the weekend. These arrests go once morest an inclusive electoral process. We call for the immediate release of all political prisoners.Nichols wrote on his X account.

Nichols’ statement coincides with the demand of opposition leader María Corina Machado. The leader asked on Monday for the release of the head of her party Vente Venezuela (VV), Henry Alviárez, and the political secretary, former deputy Dignora Hernández, following 40 days of their detention. She denounced that neither their relatives nor their lawyers have been able to see them.

«Henry and Dignora are dedicated to achieving clean and free elections in Venezuela and they have the right to continue doing so in freedom, alongside us, because they have not committed any crime. Free Henry and Dignora, let us see them.“, Machado said in a video shared by his press team.
