The Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin, reported in a statement that a high-altitude anti-missile defense system (THAAD) and several Patriot surface-to-air rocket batteries will be activated “throughout the region.”
“First, I redirected the movement of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group to the Central Command area of responsibility. This carrier strike group joins the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group, which is currently operating in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. It will further increase our force posture and strengthen our capabilities and ability to respond to a variety of contingencies,” Austin explained.

In addition, Hamas is holding regarding 200 people captive, according to the Israeli military.

The head of US diplomacy highlighted “the importance of respecting the interests of the Lebanese people, who would suffer the consequences if Lebanon is dragged into the conflict caused by the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.”
The State Department reported this telephone conversation in which Blinken expressed his “condolences” to the families of Lebanese civilians “who have tragically lost their lives as a result of the conflict.”
Blinken reiterated the United States’ “continued support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Internal Security Forces, the only legitimate guarantor of Lebanon’s stability and territorial integrity.”
