US records 4,500 flu-related deaths since start of season

The United States has recorded at least 8.7 million flu cases, 78,000 hospitalizations and 4,500 virus-related deaths since the start of the nation’s flu season, according to the latest estimates from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (CDC).

Seasonal influenza activity is high, and continues to increase across the country, according to the CDC.

About 20,000 flu-related hospitalizations were reported in the United States during the week ending November 26. The number of new patients admitted to hospital in connection with the virus nearly doubled from the previous week.

A total of 14 pediatric flu deaths have also been reported so far in the country, according to the CDC.
