“Following the horrific October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas once morest Israel and the subsequent Israeli military response, humanitarian conditions in Gaza have deteriorated significantly,” said Senior Advisor Jake Sullivan. of Joe Biden on national security, in a press release.

In view of the situation, Biden issued a decree “ordering the postponement of the expulsion of certain Palestinians present in the United States, thus offering them temporary refuge”, indicated Jake Sullivan.

People who have been convicted of crimes “or who are considered to pose a threat to public safety are not eligible for a deferment of their forced departure,” Sullivan said, adding that anyone who returns to Palestine would also lose the benefit of these protections.

The Israeli war has forced 85% of the enclave’s population to move within the territory, amid shortages of food, drinking water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure were damaged or even destroyed, according to the UN.
