US President Joe Biden said today, Sunday, that the United States is ready to provide security protection to Ukraine similar to what it provides to Israel, at a time when Ukraine is waiting to join NATO.
Biden played down Ukraine’s hopes for a quick NATO entry, saying “it will take some time” but during the waiting period, Washington might still provide aid.
Biden said that “the United States will be ready to provide … security similar to the security we provide for Israel.”
This includes “providing the weapons they need and being able to defend themselves,” Biden added.
Biden said this might only happen if there was a cease-fire and peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, the country it attacked.
The United States is already Ukraine’s largest military backer, providing the war-torn country with $42.8 billion worth of equipment, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, which publishes the Support to Ukraine Tracking Report.
