The US news agency Reuters has unofficially reported that the US government is considering issuing new sanctions against at least 60 Venezuelan officials, personal sanctions that would also affect their families.
The new proposed list highlights: officials of the National Electoral Council (CNE), the Supreme Court of Justice and the counterintelligence police (DGCIM).
“The sanctions would impose travel bans on the affected officials and their family members, and prohibit U.S. entities from doing business with them.“, details Reuters.
The United States government and part of the international community have recognized opposition candidate Edmundo González as the winner of the July 28 elections, based on the records revealed by the opposition led by María Corina Machado.
The international community continues to demand that the Venezuelan authorities publish the original records of the last presidential elections, which “reflect the true aspirations of the Venezuelan people.”
US warns it will “demand accountability”
This information comes a day after the Undersecretary of State of the United States, Brian Nichols, issued a new warning to Venezuelan government officials.
“The United States will hold accountable those who allow electoral fraud and repression. The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected“, he said.
