US power plant attack raises fears of far-right actions to lead to ‘general chaos’

The degradation of these plants in Pierce County, a southern suburb of Seattle, left more than 14,000 homes without power on Christmas Day, local police reported. An investigation was opened, but no suspect had been apprehended on Sunday, detailed the police in a press release, ensuring that they were not able to know for the moment whether or not it was a coordinated attack.

The police, however, said they are aware of similar events elsewhere in Washington State, as well as in Oregon (northwest), and North Carolina (southeast). The federal police had also warned in early December of threats once morest the electrical network of the company Tacoma Public Utilities, owner of two of the sabotaged infrastructures, according to a press release. Activists of violent extremist groups”have developed credible and targeted plans to attack electricity infrastructure since at least 2020“, had declared last January the Department of Homeland Security in a report, quoted by the American media.
