The United States Postal Service has raised the price of one of its most in-demand services for the second time in 2024, and its implementation is now official. What has changed and how does it affect the USPS customer?
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has officially announced a new increase in the price of stamps, the second so far this year. The measure, already in effect, seeks to “achieve financial stability” for the agency, according to the agency itself and the media.
The increase follows the USPS’s request for approval from regulators in April. The agency has been struggling financially in recent months, prompting the need to adjust its prices to remain solvent.
It is worth noting that this is not the only increase that the postal service has experienced this year. Last January, the USPS had already increased the price of its stamps.
US Postal Service Price Increase
The increase in the price of its stamps, including the first-class Forever stamps, domestic and international postcards. Below is a breakdown of the new stamp prices:
- First-Class Forever Stamps: Increase from 68 to 73 cents, a 7% increase.
- National postcards: Increase from 53 to 56 cents.
- International stamps: They go from $1.55 to $1.65 dollars.
This increase, which took effect in June 2024, is the second of the year for the USPS. The agency has justified the measure as a necessity to “maintain financial stability” in the face of rising operating costs and declining mail volumes.
U.S. consumers will now pay more to send letters, postcards and small packages. The cost of sending a one-ounce letter with a Forever stamp is estimated to increase by 10% from 2019.
