US Officials: 7 State Legislature Buildings Evacuated Due to Threats

One of them said that it was the e-mail that prompted them to take security action.

Officials and local media reported that police evacuated and searched buildings in Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Montana following a possible false tip.

“While everyone is safe, KSP (Kentucky State Police) has asked everyone to evacuate the state Capitol and is investigating a threat received by the Secretary of State’s office,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear wrote on X.

Michon Lindstrom, a spokeswoman for Kentucky’s secretary of state, said the threat was contained in an email sent to several state secretaries across the country, the Lexington Herald Leader reported.

“I planted some explosives in your state Capitol. The explosives are well hidden inside and will explode in a few hours. I will make sure you all die in the end,” the email reads.

The letter was sent three days before the anniversary of the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. During that storming of the US Capitol in Washington, Donald Trump’s supporters tried unsuccessfully to stop the confirmation of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

On Wednesday, officials in several states confirmed that their legislative buildings were also targeted.

Michigan police said the state legislature building will be closed for the day as a precaution.

“We start 2024 with a bomb threat at the Georgia State Capitol,” election official Gabriel Sterling wrote on the X Network. He soon informed the police following confirming that there was no danger.

“Don’t jump to conclusions regarding who’s responsible,” Sterling said, referring to the multi-building threat. – In 2024, there will be chaos spreaders sowing discord. They want to increase the tension. Don’t let them do that.”
