During his speech at the US-Nordic summit in Helsinki, US President Joe Biden said:
We stand with the Ukrainian people as they defend themselves once morest Russian aggression. We are taking the necessary actions to overcome the climate crisis.
US President Joe Biden concluded his 5-day trip to Europe, Thursday, standing by the leaders of the Nordic countries in an attempt to show NATO’s growing strength and influence in the face of an evolving Russia.
The brief stop on the coast of the Finnish capital marked the end of a carefully planned tour by Biden to highlight the growth of the military alliance the US president says has fortified itself since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Finland joined as NATO’s newest member earlier this year, an admission that effectively doubled the alliance’s borders with Russia.
Biden arrived in Helsinki following what he said was a successful annual NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, where the allies agreed on a formula that would pave the way for Ukraine to join the military alliance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the outcome of the summit an “important security victory” for his country, but nevertheless expressed disappointment that Kiev did not receive an explicit invitation to join NATO.
Biden and other administration officials also held what aides said were pivotal talks with Ankara shortly before Turkey changed course and dropped its objections to Sweden joining NATO.
Biden had told reporters before boarding Air Force One heading to Finland, “I have a good feeling regarding this trip. You know, we achieved every goal that we sought to achieve.”
