More than 50 US lawmakers on Friday asked the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) to launch an official investigation into the death of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aklehin the West Bank on May 11.

The 57 members of the House, mostly Democrats, put forward that the journalist held American citizenship, and underlined the divergence of the Israeli and Palestinian versions on the circumstances of her shooting death.

“Given the precarious situation in the region and the conflicting information surrounding the death of Ms. Abu Akleh, we call on the State Department and the FBI to open an investigation into her death,” they wrote. in a letter.

Meanwhile, the US State Department reiterated its call for a “thorough and transparent” investigation into the death of Shireen Abu Akleh.

“Any investigation must include the determination of responsibility,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said Friday.

Shireen Abu Akleh, who had worked for the Al Jazeera channel for 25 years, was killed in Jenin in the West Bank, during an exchange of fire between IDF soldiers and armed Palestinian terrorists.

The Palestinian Authority has so far refused to work with Israel to determine where the bullet that killed the journalist came from.
