US-Japan Diplomacy Significant and Imminent Threat to North Korean Missiles Passing through the Japanese Islands

“South Korea, the United States and Japan will continue to work closely together to respond to additional Security Council responses.”

The Japanese Foreign Ministry announced that the foreign ministers of the United States and Japan shared the view that the passage of a North Korean ballistic missile through the Japanese archipelago on the 4th was a “serious and imminent threat” to Japan.

According to the Foreign Ministry, US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi had a 10-minute phone conversation starting at 11:15 a.m. on the same day.

The two ministers strongly condemned the passage of a North Korean ballistic missile over Japan for the first time in five years, calling it “a grave and imminent threat to Japan’s security and a clear and serious challenge to the international community.”

“The two ministers confirmed that the ROK, the United States, and South Korea and Japan will continue to work closely together on additional responses from the Security Council for the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution,” the Foreign Ministry added.
