US Invests $7.865B in CHIPS Program to Boost Semiconductor Industry and Supply Chain Security

Historic CHIPS Investment of up to $7.865 Billion to Revolutionize U.S. Supply Chain Security and Fuel Innovation in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon

“The CHIPS for America program is poised to catapult American innovation and technological advancements to unprecedented heights, while bolstering our nation’s security – and Intel’s unprecedented investments across Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon are at the forefront of this revolution,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. “Under the visionary leadership of President Biden and Vice President Harris, our CHIPS award is empowering Intel to drive one of the most substantial semiconductor manufacturing expansions in U.S. history, with far-reaching implications for the country’s economic growth and competitiveness.”

“Today’s milestone award marks a pivotal moment in the implementation of President Biden’s CHIPS and Science Act, as well as the Investing in America agenda, which aims to revitalize domestic manufacturing, create thousands of high-paying job opportunities, and fortify our economy through strategic investments in critical industries,” said White House Deputy Chief of Staff Natalie Quillian. “Intel’s investments across the country exemplify the tangible impact of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, which is yielding transformative results for the American people and redefining the nation’s economic landscape.”

“The resurgence of cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing on American soil represents a major breakthrough, with Intel 3 already in high-volume production and Intel 18A set to follow suit next year,” said Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel. “The strong bipartisan support for restoring American technology and manufacturing leadership has galvanized historic investments that are pivotal to the country’s long-term economic prosperity and national security. As we expand our U.S. operations over the next several years, Intel remains deeply committed to advancing these shared priorities and solidifying the nation’s position at the forefront of technological innovation.”

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has established the CHIPS Program Office, responsible for administering manufacturing incentives, and the CHIPS Research and Development Office, overseeing R&D programs, to spearhead the CHIPS for America initiative.
