US How did non-Tesla electric vehicles increase market share?

The number of traditional non-Tesla new car dealers selling electric vehicles has more than tripled in the past three years and the market share of non-Tesla electric vehicles has grown 800 percent, according to the latest study from the iSeeCars site.

The percentage of dealers selling new electric vehicles increased from 16.5 percent to 55.1 percent between November 2020 and November 2023.

In the same 3-year period, used car dealers offering electric vehicles haven’t seen as much growth, but their numbers have also increased dramatically. – increasing from 17.1 percent to 29.4 percent.

“New car dealerships, outside the Tesla network, offering electric vehicles have increased over the past three years, with the biggest growth coming in just the last 12 months,” said Karl Brauer, executive analyst at iSeeCars.

“This will put increasing pressure on Tesla’s sales and market share. Used car dealers have also entered the electric vehicle market, growing more than 70 percent compared to three years ago.”

Tesla’s long-standing dominance over the U.S. EV market is also evaporating, with non-Tesla’s new EV market share soaring from 0.5 percent in November 2020. to 4.7 percent in November 2023. That’s 800 percent growth in just three years.

“Currently, regarding half of all new electric vehicle sales in the United States are not Teslas,” Brauer said.

“With so many traditional auto companies entering the electric vehicle space over the past three years, Tesla’s decline in market share was inevitable. “Tesla’s share is likely to continue to decline, despite the company’s recently launched Cybertruck.”
