US health authorities record the second death from monkeypox

The US health authorities announced a second death from monkeypox in the country this year.

A statement issued by the local health department stated that the deceased, a Los Angeles resident, had severely weakened immunity before he was transferred to the hospital, without revealing more details regarding his condition, in order to protect confidentiality.

“People with severe immunodeficiency suspected of having monkeypox are encouraged to seek medical care and treatment in the early stages and to remain in care during the course of their illness,” the statement read.

The United States recorded the first death from monkeypox on August 30, knowing that the authorities said that the deceased was suffering from severe immunodeficiency, and that investigations are being conducted to determine the extent of the impact of the infection on his death.

The announcement of the second death related to monkeypox comes, while the rate of infections in the country has been declining since mid-August.

In the United States, 22,000 cases of smallpox were recorded, in the current outbreak, which began in May, and 460,000 doses of vaccine once morest the disease were received in 35 states.

Usually, the disease is transmitted through contact with skin blisters, or the saliva of an infected person, as well as through contact and joint use of bedding or towels, and the infected person remains contagious until the blisters peel off and new skin is formed.
