According to the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) report, there are 247 new “unidentified anomalous phenomena” in addition to 144 pending investigations and 119 cold cases buried in old files from the past 17 years. Most UFO reports come from US Navy and Air Force pilots.
In regarding two hundred of those reports, it appears to be regarding everyday apparitions such as birds, balloons and drones. The other reports might not yet be explained and will be investigated by the Pentagon, the American intelligence services and NASA. Not because the Americans fear that these are alien spacecraft, but mainly because of the risk of espionage from abroad. “These unidentified phenomena are a threat to flight safety and pose a potential threat to intelligence gathering,” the report said.
However, according to the report, many of those still unexplained alerts are simply the result of weather events, faulty sensors or erroneous reports by humans. “Many reports lack sufficiently detailed data,” it says.
The report comes following years of pressure from Congress on military and intelligence agencies to address what used to be called UFOs, or unidentified flying objects.
In 2020, the Pentagon released a still-unexplained video taken by Navy pilots of objects moving at incredible speeds, spinning and mysteriously disappearing once more.
