US figure skater Leo retires at 16

“I’m here to announce my retirement from skiing,” said Liu, a two-time US champion, who has achieved all her career goals.

And she continued on her Instagram page, “I started skating at the age of five, which means 11 years on the ice, and it was 11 crazy years.”

“So many good and bad things, but this is it. I made many friendships and reaped memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. I honestly did not expect these achievements.”

Liu made American history when she won the national title at the age of 13 in 2019 with a rare women’s triple jump and successfully defended her title the following year.

She was at a young age to compete internationally or with adults, but she reached the Olympic team despite being infected with the Corona virus last January, and she finished seventh in the Chinese capital.

After that, she finished third behind Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto and Belgium’s Luina Hendricks in the world championships in France, in the absence of Russian skiers.

It was the first US skater’s medal at the world championships since Ashley Wagner in 2016.

“I am satisfied with my skateboarding career,” the Californian added.
