US Fed’s Beige Book: ‘Forecasts for economic growth are largely negative’: ZUM News

[워싱턴=뉴시스]Correspondent Kim Nan-young = The US Federal Reserve (Fed) said that the future economic outlook is generally negative amid concerns regarding a growing recession.

This was included in the ‘Beige Book’, a report on the economic situation of 12 regions under the jurisdiction of the US Federal Reserve, released on the 13th (local time). “Economic activity has expanded at an overall moderate pace since mid-May, but several regions have reported signs of a growing slowdown on the demand side,” the Beige Book said.

Some regions have also reported concerns regarding a growing recession. In addition, consumer spending has also slowed in most regions, as household discretionary income has decreased due to rising food and energy prices. New car sales are also sluggish in most regions due to inventory issues, the Fed said.

“In many regions, there have been reports of supply chain disruptions and labor shortages continuing to disrupt production activities,” the Fed said. In the energy sector, demand is strong and drilling is active, but production is limited due to availability of labor and supply chain bottlenecks.

“Similar to previous reports, the outlook for future economic growth was mostly negative in the regions where it was reported,” the Fed said in a statement.
