US expresses concern over the result issued by the CNE

The US Embassy in Venezuela issued a statement following the National Electoral Council (CNE) bulletin, which showed that Nicolás Maduro had won the elections for his re-election as president of Venezuela.

“We applaud the Venezuelan people for their participation in the July 28 presidential election. We commend their courage and commitment to democracy in the face of repression and adversity,” the US Secretary of State said in the letter.

Regarding the results issued, the US government expressed concern that “the announced result does not reflect the will or the votes of the Venezuelan people.”

In this regard, it is considered “fundamental that each vote is counted in a fair and transparent manner, that electoral officials share the information immediately with the opposition and independent observers without delay.”

The minister also called on the electoral authorities to publish the minutes. They also recalled that “the international community is following this very closely and will respond accordingly.”

CNE announced Maduro as the winner:

Nicolás Maduro: 5,190,091, equivalent to 51.20% of the votes counted

Edmundo González: 4,445,978, equivalent to 44.2% of the votes

Other candidates 462,704 being 4.06%

Participation level: 59%
