US expects death toll from ‘flu’ to reach 18,000

LOS ANGELES, Mar. 4 (Xinhua) — On Friday (Mar. 3), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released Estimates for the number of influenza cases in the country are at least 26 million, 290,000 hospitalizations and 18,000 deaths in the current pandemic season.

The center reported the number of children who died from influenza in the country. The current epidemic season totaled 117, and the number and rate of weekly influenza hospitalizations continued to decline. About 1,500 patients were admitted to hospital in the latest week. which ended on 25 Feb.

The center recommends that Americans ages 6 months and older get the annual influenza vaccine. This includes getting prescription flu antivirals that can be used to treat the illness as quickly as possible.
