Italy’s Caracol will be showcasing Large Format 3D AM (LFAM) at the US machinery expo IMTS in September. This takes place at the booth of Kuka, the robotics partner the Italians have been working with for several years. Caracol’s top model, the Heron AM, will be demonstrated live at the show.

The two companies have been working together for several years to develop a powerful 3D printing platform based on Caracol extruder technology and Kuka’s six-axis motion robot. Caracol has developed a patented system that is connected to the robot arm. The company has developed its own software platform, Eidos Manufacturing, for slicing, LFAM and robot motion. Printing is done with pellets.

10 sensors monitor the process

The top model Heron AM is equipped with about 10 sensors to track various parameters. Consider energy consumption, temperature, humidity, extrusion temperature, possible vibrations, energy consumption of the screw extruder, etc. Self-developed algorithms use this data to monitor the printing process and identify possible defects. Last year, Caracol presented the various options at the Formnext show in Frankfurt.

Now it’s America’s turn. Kuka put the Heron AM on display at the Robotics Hobbyist booth in Chicago.International transport systemThe increased focus on additive manufacturing and automation this year highlights the growing impact of these technologies in the industrial supply chain. Since our founding, we have revolutionized large-scale 3D printing using robotics, enabling efficiency, flexibility, and geometric freedom unmatched by traditional methods.” snails.

In addition to its headquarters in Milan, the company currently has branches in the United States and the United Arab Emirates. The company has more than 80 employees and is currently represented in 42 countries. Caracol claims to have the largest Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) center in Europe.
