A federal choose in the US has ordered Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump’s former prime adviser, to serve a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress.
U.S. District Decide Carl Nichols’ order Thursday got here following a federal appeals court docket final month rejected Bannon’s try and overturn his conviction. Bannon was requested to give up no later than July 1, 2024
Bannon was punished for refusing a subpoena to look at a congressional listening to held by a US Home of Representatives committee investigating the assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 by a mob of Trump supporters.
Bannon advised reporters outdoors the courthouse that he would ask the US Supreme Court docket to intervene, calling his lawsuit politically motivated.
“All of that is for one factor, to kill the MAGA motion,” Bannon stated, referring to Trump’s ‘Make America Nice Once more’ marketing campaign slogan.
“There isn’t any jail constructed that can silence me,” he continued.
Bannon might be the second former prime Trump White Home official to be jailed for refusing to cooperate with a congressional committee investigating the 2021 assault on the US Capitol in Washington, DC.
