On Monday, August 26, U.S. Congressmen and Senators sent a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee to support the nomination of opposition leader María Corina Machado for the Nobel Peace Prize.
“Today I am proud to lead my colleagues in a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee supporting Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado as a Nobel Peace Prize nominee,” US Senator Rick Scott announced on his X account (formerly Twitter).
Regarding Machado, Scott highlighted her as a “true embodiment” of the Nobel Peace Prize.
“In stark contrast to the oppression, torture, murder and economic deprivation at the hands of the Chavez-Maduro dictatorship, Maria Corina Machado’s peaceful leadership has become a beacon of hope and resilience for the Venezuelan people – a true embodiment of the Nobel Peace Prize,” she said.
In addition to Scott, the document has the signatures of other U.S. representatives, such as Senator Marco Rubio and Congressmen María Elvira Salazar and Mario Díaz Balart.

What the application says
US politicians say peace in the region has been disrupted by (Nicolás) Maduro welcoming some of the worst political actors in the world, including “terrorists and dictators who support him.”
In this regard, they highlight the “courage and altruism” in the leadership of María Corina Machado. They also emphasized her ability to organize and lead a movement in favor of democracy and human rights.
“His unwavering moral compass and commitment to democratic peace in his country and the region is an example to the world,” he said.
They also stressed that Machado’s efforts not only highlight the urgent need for international solidarity “in the face of an expansive and aggressive authoritarianism,” but also her quest for justice.
“It is also a reminder of the power of individual courage in the pursuit of justice,” the statement said.
Other nominations in favor of Maria Corina Machado

“I don’t know of any world-class figure who has the qualities of María Corina Machado, who has always energetically promoted this civic process to be peaceful, never violent,” said Marcell Felipe, president of the museum, to the EFE news agency.
The Nobel Committee begins selecting nominees in February and, after drawing up a short list, the winner is chosen at the end of the year.
