US Congressman holds up sign to Netanyahu reading ‘Guilty of Genocide’

WASHINGTON.— On Wednesday, during the appearance of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahubefore him United States Congressthe Democratic Congressman of Palestinian origin, Rashida Tlaibheld a sign with the legend: “Guilty of genocide,” in protest.

The legislator, one of the voices against the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Stripalso wearing a kufiya (Palestinian headscarf) and did not applaud or stand up when the Prime Minister entered the chamber.

Dozens of Democratic lawmakers boycotted the speech and stayed away from Congress, while hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters rallied outside the Capitol against Netanyahu’s presence.

During his speech, the prime minister lashed out at the protesters, calling them “Tehran’s useful idiots.”

“As far as we know, Iran is financing the anti-Israeli protests that are taking place right now in front of this building,” he said.

The Prime Minister was invited to his fourth speech before the United States Congress by the Republican Party, in a show of support in the face of the tensions unleashed between the Biden Administration and the Netanyahu government by the way Israel conducts the offensive on the Gaza Strip.
