Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu receives standing ovation from US lawmakers despite war crimes in Gaza(social media X)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received a standing ovation from US lawmakers despite war crimes in Gaza as he addressed a joint session of the US Congress seeking to rally support for his deadly war on Gaza.

Netanyahu delivered a speech before US lawmakers, sometimes misleading them and sometimes outright lying about Israel’s war in Gaza, where nearly 40,000 people have been killed since October 7.

People on social media criticized the US lawmaker and his audience, as Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza continued at the time. Roughly half of Democrats in the House and Senate skipped Netanyahu’s speech to a joint session of Congress.

Billionaire and Tesla CEO Elon Musk attended Netanyahu’s speech as a special guest. Arizona Republican Representative Eli Crane was also seen in Congress expressing support for Netanyahu.

Joining him is Cory Mills, a Republican from Florida, unsurprisingly given his strong support for Israel in Congress. Mills previously introduced articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden over his threat to cut some military aid to Israel in May.

Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna also appeared at the Congress, apparently trying to get Palestinian U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib to take down her placards that read “War criminal” and “Guilty of genocide.”

Tlaib, however, held up the sign throughout her speech. Another Republican from Texas, Chip Roy, was also among the lawmakers who showed support for Netanyahu.

In May, he said the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu on war crimes charges in Gaza was “completely unacceptable.” Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona was also among lawmakers who gave Netanyahu a standing ovation.

Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri is also in Congress, and his post on X stated that the US has no more important ally than Israel.

‘Powerful and inspiring words today from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. America has no more important ally than Israel,’ he wrote on X after Netanyahu’s speech, as reported by Anadolu, Friday (7/26).

Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, one of Israel’s biggest allies in Congress, called Netanyahu’s speech “Churchillian.” ‘He understands the seriousness of the war in Israel, the existential threat to our Israeli allies, and the staggering risks facing America’s national security,’ he said on X.

Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin was also seen in Congress showing support for Netanyahu. Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida also attended the congressional session and criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for skipping Netanyahu’s speech.

He said Harris and Democrats were undermining American Jews. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, and far-right Republican Lauren Boebert of Colorado, who supports closer ties with Israel for religious reasons, were also present at Congress during Netanyahu’s speech.

Matt Gaetz has served as a Representative for Florida since 2017. A member of the Republican Party, Gaetz is known for his strong support of right-wing politics and is a close ally of former President Donald Trump.

Tim Burchett, a Republican congressman from Tennessee, believes that Israel is the US’s greatest ally.

He argued that as the only democracies in the Middle East, Israel and the US share a commitment to freedom. Gaetz and Burchett also appeared to support Netanyahu. (Z-3)
