The US comedian Dave Chappelle (48) was attacked on stage. As the industry publication “Hollywood Reporter” reports, the attack occurred on Tuesday evening at the Netflix Is A Joke stand-up comedy event in Hollywood.
Videos of the incident show an unrecognizable person coming onto the stage and trying to pull Chappelle to the ground before security forces intervene.
Another video shows the perpetrator being pushed into an ambulance. Apparently he broke his arm, as the recordings suggest. Los Angeles police have not yet commented on the incident.
Much criticism for Chappelle shows
One possible reason for the attack: Chappelle has been criticized online for occasionally making fun of transgender people on his shows. In an episode of Netflix’s The Closer, he defended himself once morest allegations of transphobia, saying gender was a “fact” and that his critics were too “sensitive.”
The African-American comedian also pointed out that there have been improvements for sexual minorities in a few years that black people have not achieved in decades. Chappelle’s statements caused a stir at the time.
Memories of Oscar slap awakened
Already in March there was an attack on a stage. US actor Will Smith (53) slapped comedian Chris Rock (57) during the Oscars following he joked regarding Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett’s (50) hair loss. (AFP/fmu)
