US captures Islamic State leader in Syria raid

The United States Military Command Center in the Middle East (CENTCOM) conducted a helicopter raid in eastern Syria in conjunction with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to capture a leader of the Islamic State armed group.

Named Batar, this officer was allegedly involved in “planning attacks once morest homeless detention centers and making improvised explosive devices,” CENTCOM said in a statement.

The command center adds that the raid was the subject of extensive planning to ensure its success and specifies that no one was injured or killed during this intervention.

This event comes two days following an official of the armed group Islamic State, Hamza al-Homsi, was killed during another raid carried out by CENTCOM by helicopter, this time in the northeast of the country, during which four American soldiers were injured.
