In Cuba, self-employed workers will be able to receive cars, trucks, tractors and even trailers from US businessmen.

This will be possible through the management of the United States Department of the Treasury, which granted the shipping licenses to these entrepreneurs.

Until the moment of the measure, only some Ministries in Cuba had the authorization to import cars to the island. According to a document issued by the United States Department of Commerce, last October Joe Biden had approved the export of electric motorcycles and scooters.

This, with the condition of use for Cuban citizens who require it in their private businesses and in their own personal transportation on the island.

But now, the licenses will be worth $10 million and will not allow shipment to Cuban government agencies. In other words, the vehicles will be sent directly to the self-employed. This was recently reported by the Univisión channel.

Apacargo Express, is a Miami agency that received the export license and Eduardo Aparicio, one of its members, offered statements to Univisión.

“For 10 million dollars, it includes used cars, new cars, trailers, tractors and all agricultural equipment, as well as minibuses.”

What should stakeholders do?

The first step is always to contact the importer and fill out the invoice preform to find out the tax to be paid.

In other words, the permit will be directed at small and medium-sized companies, and in this way they will be able to import the vehicles.

The representative of Apacargo Express also stated that the importer charges 30% of the invoice value of the car. Compared to this figure, it might be said that Cuban Customs charges a fairly discreet price.

For example, for a $20,000.00 USD car in the United States, the interested party must pay $6,000.00 USD in taxes and $10,000 USD between logistics and documentation. This would bring a total of approximately $36,000.00 USD.
