Anna Gabrielian, an anesthesiologist, and her husband, Jamie Lee Henry, a US Army major and physician, allegedly provided confidential ‘personal health information’ to an undercover FBI agent, who was posing as a Russian government employee , according to what CNN reported.
The couple were arrested Tuesday morning, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.
According to the indictment, Ms Gabrielian was contacted by an undercover agent, who identified himself as an employee of the Russian Embassy, last August. He reportedly approached her following she contacted the Russian embassy to offer her and her husband’s help to the Russian government.
During a meeting between the anesthetist and the agent, Anna Gabrielian reportedly said she was “motivated by a patriotism directed towards Russia”, and that she wanted to offer her help, even if it meant risking prison.
She also reportedly assured the agent that her husband might provide information on how the US military sets up hospitals during a war, and what training is given to the Ukrainian military.
Also according to CNN, during a meeting, Mr. Henry allegedly said that he “considered volunteering to join the Russian army following the conflict in Ukraine began”, but did not have the necessary combat experience, according to the indictment. Henry is said to have a “secret” level security clearance.
Mr. Henry allegedly provided the undercover agent last August with the medical records of a U.S. Army officer, a Department of Defense employee, and the wives of three Army veterans, two of whom died.
Ms. Gabrielian also allegedly provided health information regarding the wife of a government employee and military veteran, the prosecution alleges. The woman also reportedly laid out a plan for her and her family to flee to Turkey and gave the agent a cover story to explain their communications.
“I don’t want to end up in jail here with my kids as hostages over my head,” she allegedly confessed to the FBI agent.
