US announces over USD 592 mn in humanitarian aid for Africa

America announced humanitarian aid to Africa. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the US State Department will provide $592 million in funding. Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration Assistant Secretary of State Julieta Wallsey informed regarding this.

The funding was announced to meet the urgent needs of the Ugandan population, which has been affected by the global food crisis and regional conflict. This includes more than USD 82 million for humanitarian assistance in Uganda, USD 61 million in humanitarian assistance from the State Department, and USD 21 million from USAID.

Uganda is the largest refugee center on the continent with over 1.5 million refugees. USAID funding through the UN World Food Program (WFP) will reach refugees in the form of monthly kits of food items such as beans, corn kernels and vegetable oil. It is also a great relief to the communities in Uganda’s Karamoja sub-region who are suffering from severe drought.
