US and South Korean militaries fire 8 missiles in response to Pyongyang

The United States and South Korea announced that they launched surface-to-surface missiles in response to North Korean missiles launched on Sunday.

North Korea fired eight short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) toward the East Sea Sunday, a day following Seoul and Washington concluded their joint exercises near the peninsula with the participation of a US aircraft carrier, according to the South Korean military.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launches were observed between 9:08 a.m. and 9:43 a.m. from the areas around Sunan in Pyongyang, Kaechon, north of the capital, the northwest region of Chongchang-ri, and the eastern city of Hamhong.

The missiles flew between 110 and 670 km at an altitude of 25-90 km at a speed of between Mach 3 and 6, it added.
