HONG KONG (Archyde.com) – The U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet said the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier strike group had returned to the South China Sea following calling in Singapore.

He declined to comment on rising tensions with China over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s consideration of a visit to Taiwan.

Ronald Reagan “continues normal scheduled activities as part of the patrol to support a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

The Ronald Reagan carrier strike group was in Singapore over the weekend for a five-day rest following deploying to the South China Sea earlier this month.

Ian Storey, a security expert in Singapore, said he expects Chinese ships to pursue strike groups given recent actions and the escalating situation. In most cases, it won’t be a problem, but there’s always the risk of getting too close and facing each other.
